Palliative Medicine can also be called as palliative care, which simply aims to provide quality of life and relives from the sufferings of palliative patients. Palliative Medicine was first introduced in November 1987 in UK.

As per the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Palliative care refers the care of terminal illness patients or the care of life-limiting illness (not the life-threatening illness) patients. Palliative Medicine is just a medical aspect of Palliative care. According to the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, it is the study and management of patients with active, progressive, far advanced disease for which the prognosis is limited and the focus of care and in providing the quality of life.

The objective of Palliative Medicine is to help the patients who are suffering from the negative effects of the impaired health diseases. Such diseases significantly worsen the quality of life. Palliative medicine treats the symptoms and side-effects of such diseases and gives the treatment accordingly.
