Anti-aging effects of the proteins from artemia extract on human fibroblasts cell proliferation and collagen expression in induced aging conditions

Neda Vaseli-Hagh; Abdolkhaleg Deezagi*; Mahvash Khodabandeh Shahraki

Researches on the factors that inhibit senescence are attractive in health industries. Artemia extract uses in cosmetic and sunlight protecting products. The aim of this work was to study the effects of Artemia extract on the cell proliferation, senescence and collagen synthesis by human fibroblasts in normal and aging induced conditions.

Effect of antiretroviral drugs on the renal function of HIV seropositive patients attending ISS clinic of Mulago Hospital, Uganda

John N Kateregga; Collins Atuheire; Justine Nalunga; Ndukui G James*

Background: Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) consisting of at least three active drugs against HIV infection has improved HIV/AIDS management since their inception. However, alterations of lipid metabolism due to HAART can result into secondary diabetic and hypertensive renal damage. This study was carried out to assess the effect of antiretroviral drugs on the renal function of HIV seropositive patients by determining the serum levels of Creatinine, Urea and Electrolytes (Na, K, and Cl) of the patients on treatment.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) were raised against 43 kDa glycoprotein (gp43) of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. One mAb anti-gp43 and gp43 were used in a double-antibody sandwich ELISA to detect antibodies in sera from patients with Paracoccidioidomycosis. This ELISA diagnosis showed 91.18% sensibility and 100.0% specificity against sera of patients with histoplasmosis, aspergillosis or chromomycosis.

Microbial load in unpasteurized milk obtained from selected milk outlets in Kawempe division of Kampala, Uganda

Background: Milk consumption and demand has increased drastically over the past years in response to expanding human population in Uganda and world at large. Despite this, many residents of Kampala city obtain milk from shops supplied by milk vendors, who in turn, collect it directly from farms. The microbial load of this unpasteurized milk is not known, yet it could expose the population to milk-borne diseases..
