Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Current Treatment and Future Perspectives

Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic and relapsing disorder on the gastrointestinal tract, which can be divided in ulcerative colitis and Chron’s disease. Nowadays, it has been observed an exponential increase of new cases which turns this disease as a major health problem worldwide, where it is not a known cure. Indeed, the pharmacological approaches currently available only aims to induce and maintain remission in patients, with several side effects derived from long-term utilization.
